Parade

The Odessa High School Band of Distinction and Odessa Middle School 8th Grade Band, affectionately referred to as ‘Mini-B.O.D.’, competed at Carrollton Band Day on Saturday, September 22nd. The ‘Mini-B.O.D.’ performed an arrangement by Paul Murtha of the popular Latin hit “Oye Como Va”, and was awarded 1st place in the parade competition for 4A Middle school bands. The High School band earned 1st place in the parade playing an arrangement by Tom Wallace of the mega AC/DC hit “Back in Black”.

'08 Seniors

The band was also awarded 1st place in the field, outstanding color guard (class 4A) and were named Grand Champions of the day. The Grand Championship is a traveling trophy and is awarded to the band with the highest combined parade and field score of all bands in classes 4A, 5A and 6A. This is the 3rd time in a row (4th overall) Odessa has earned the Grand Champion honors in Carrollton. Having won it three consecutive years means the trophy is now retired and will stay in Odessa. Odessa becomes the 5th school in the 38 year history of the festival to retire the Grand Championship.

Soloists

The Band Of Distinction performed their field show “American Impressions.” The show includes music from popular folk songs including: “All Creatures of Our God and King”, “It Is Well With my Soul” and “Simple Gifts”. The music was arranged by Steve Vento and Jim Prime with percussion by Kirby Spayde. The band is under the field direction of Allison Dooley, Reed Philips and Andrew Godsey. The field show features Rachelle Geddes, Olivia Biondi, Candice Andrews, Rachel DeFoe, Racheal Wildscheutz and Jay Whitsitt with various solos, duets and trios. The Color Guard features soloists Rebecca Hart, Hannah Vinson and Sam Houston.

Outstanding Auxiliary

The band will perform their next show Saturday, October 6th at the Odessa Marching Invitational. The B.O.D.’s next competition is October 13th at Lee’s Summit North. For up to the date information, pictures and video regarding the Odessa Band program please visit www.odessabands.com.
