Old Business:

Thoughts on Grand Nationals

  •  Fire Plan- Executive board will compile a plan for the next trip

  • Would like to go next year; the kids did great; first time in the new stadium

  • Dilemmas for next year:  St Louis:  No football game on Friday night, would perform on Friday which would require spending the night and going thru BOA’s housing board-more money; Indy Regional:  same as District Band Try-Outs; Michigan:  2nd weekend in October; After October 25 there are not any marching competitions in Missouri; Could go to Atlanta or San Antonio; November 15 is Grand Nationals- will probably compete on Thursday, which would require more financially;

  • Survey of student after Grand Nationals trip: only 2 students voted not to go again and have since dropped out of band.

  • Suggested there may be auditions for the Marching Band next year; Alternates possible for those who are unable to perform; This weighs heavily on Mr. Hansen

Upcoming Events:

Midwest Honor Band, January 19

Concert Saturday evening at UMKC

Pageant of Bands, February 23

Concession stand will be provided during the event. School will provide the supplies. Band Booster will have the proceeds. Approximately $150 is earned at Basketball games. Will speak to Mr. Olfield. Parents will be needed to work shifts. Possibly supplement concessions with pieces of pie.

Mr. Hansen will submit a press release and has spoke to the auctioneers. Flyers will be posted at all the businesses. Approximately 60 pies will be needed. Those performing are 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade bands, Jazz band, Winter Percussion Ensemble, Concert Band and Symphonic Band.  An email will be sent to those on the distribution list.

It was suggested by Sarah Williams to hold the Silent Auction during the Pageant of Bands. Last year it was held during the Golf Tournament. Believed it was too rushed to it this year, possible for next year. Instead it was approved to do it during the Spring Concert on May 9.

Conference Band, Boonville, March 1

This is the last concert for the Missouri River Valley Conference. It will cease to exist after this year.

Golf Tournament, April 26

Tee time is 9 am. Committees are needed: Soliciting of business for hole sponsors- list of last year sponsors, suggested meeting with the businesses in person; Food- will need breakfast food, last year: burgers and hot dogs were provided thru out the tournament, organize workers, supplies; Awards/goody bags for those playing- Tom Meyer might supply golf balls for tournament.

Dana Bamvakais will be on the food committee and Sarah Williams will do the awards if needed.

Sign-up forms will again be sent home. Flyers placed in businesses. Volunteers are needed to help during the day. An email will be sent out asking for those willing to help on the committees.

New Business:

Drumline request for assistance, Mr. Spayde

Winter Percussion Ensemble is doing the concert competition this year. Will alternate each year with marching one year then concert the next year. Asked for the Band Boosters to float a loan of $1500 so uniforms may be purchased. Fees paid by the ensemble members will reimburse this money. The motion was made to provide $1500 was approved and passed.

Patches

The only patch earned this year was Carrollton Band Day, Grand Champion. A sign up sheet will be placed on the bulletin board in the band room. An email will also be distributed. The fee is $10 per patch. Payment should be placed in an envelope, labeled band patch, and dropped off in the black box in the band room. Payment will need to be received before the patches are ordered. Turnaround time is about 6 weeks. Patches will be ordered the last of March or first of April to guarantee delivery by the band banquet in May.

Magazine Sales

The magazine money will be coming in soon. Most payments will be in by February. Accounts were previously credited with possible payment coming in. Refunds possible for those who sold above and beyond credited amount.

Concession Stand

The band is on the schedule to work the concession stand at the Basketball game on Thursday, January 17. 2-3 volunteers were asked to work. Need to be there at 5:30 pm.

Director’s Comments:

Mr. Hansen

Mrs. Sloan put aside money for future uniform purchases. Dr. Bollow advised a portion of the funds will need to be spent or we will loose it. Currently designing a new coat. Approximately $166 will be spent per coat. Might ask the boosters to supply new gauntlets or plumes. Students will need to purchase bibs ($38) along with their shoes. Looking into students also purchasing their pants- possibly guaranteeing better care is taken with them. Current uniforms will be used for the concert bands.

Meeting dismissed.

Respectfully submitted,

Chere White
