On March 3, 2007 the Odessa Middle School, Odessa High School Winter Guards and Odessa Percussion Ensemble competed at Lee’s Summit High School, in Lee’s Summit, MO. They all compete in the Mid-Continent Color Guard Association, which is a 7 state regional circuit.

The Middle School Winter Guard performed their show, “Last Dance” to the music of Donna Summer. The guard is under the direction of Lindsey Hansen. They earned the high Middle School score of the day – 15 points ahead of the second place unit. Captains for the guard are Emily Hannaway, Dani Andrews, and Mallory Hall. Their next contest is March 24th at Center HS, and then the MCCGA Championships on March 31st. They are currently seated first in the 7 state region among middle school units.

This was the 3rd circuit competition for the High School Winter Guard this season. They scored a season high of 79.7 on Saturday, performing their show entitled “Crossing the Line” to the music of composer Karl Jenkins. Captains for the OHS Guard are Courtney Corbit, Sam Houston, and Rachelle Geddes.

Their next performance is also at Center HS on March 24th, and they will also head to the MCCGA Championships on March 31st. For the second year, the unit will be attending the WGI World Championships in Dayton OH, April 11-14 where they will be competing with 178 other units in their classification.

The guard is under the direction of Lindsey Hansen.

The OHS Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Kirby Spayde, also received first place at the Lee’s Summit Festival on Saturday. They tied with Marquette HS, out of St. Louis, MO. Their show this year, entitled “Soaring Through Space”, scored a 79.1 and places the unit within the top of their classification. Due to an electrical problem the group was penalized, the score before the penalty deduction was 79.8.

This is the first year for this ensemble and they are still undefeated in circuit competition. They will also be attending the Center HS Festival and MCCGA Championships in Springfield, MO with both High School and Middle School guards.
